Sliders and pullers

We offer every slider and puller type sold on the market: metal and plastic, locking and non-locking, with wire, leather, rubber and cord pullers included. We pick what fits your chain together, with a sample.

The product

What sliders and pullers are

The slider is the body that runs along the chain, closing and opening the teeth. The puller, or pull tab, is the part attached to it that you grip and pull. How a zipper feels, how it locks and how it looks on the product depend largely on these two parts.

At MAK Zipper, whatever the market sells in metal and plastic, we sell too. So if you have a particular model in hand or are after a certain type, you can ask us rather than chasing separate suppliers.

It is hard to think of a slider apart from its zipper, because each one is made for a particular chain. So weigh up your choice alongside our pages on metal zippers, nylon zippers, molded zippers and zipper by the metre.

We have made zippers to world standards in Istanbul since 2005, with a factory in Esenyurt and a sales store in Mercan. Our craftsmen's 20-plus years of experience help you pair the slider with the right chain, and we ship wholesale worldwide, led by Türkiye and the Balkans.

Slider types

Sliders are mostly grouped by how they lock, but the market also has types made for particular uses. We offer all of the types below, across the metal and plastic options available for each.

  • Auto-lockThe slider locks when the puller is released and frees when it is lifted. Comes in plain, hook, clip, wire puller and combination puller versions. Common on jackets, dresses and outerwear.
  • Semi-autoLocks when the puller is folded flat and opens when it is lifted. Available with a metal or plastic body. Often seen on jeans and trouser flies.
  • Non-lockNo lock at all, so it slides freely. Comes plain or with a single or double puller. Made for bags, luggage and upholstery that open often.
  • Pin-lockA pin on the puller presses between the teeth to hold the slider, making a practical option between locking and non-locking types.
  • Swivel pullerThe puller turns on the body, so it pulls comfortably from whichever direction you hold it. Available locking and non-locking.
  • ReversibleThe puller swings to either face of the body, so the zipper works from both sides. Useful on tents, sleeping bags and reversible garments.
  • Double-pullA puller on each face, for products that have to open from both inside and outside.
  • Detachable bodyBody and puller come as separate parts and the puller is fitted later. Practical if you want to use different pullers on the same body.
  • Invisible zipper sliderMade for the narrow channel of an invisible zipper, with a small puller. Comes in auto-lock plain, hook and clip versions.
  • Transparent sliderKeeps the body from standing out on molded chain, and sits well with clear or pale teeth.
  • Bedding sliderUsed on pillows, duvet covers and similar home textiles, with a zamak or plastic body.
  • Anti-magnetic sliderUsed for production that passes through a needle detector, and often chosen for baby and children's wear.
  • No-pull sliderA body with no puller, for products where you attach your own puller, string or cord.

This list covers the types people ask for most. If you are after something more specialised, such as a cam or key lock, or an anti-magnetic slider for lines with needle detectors, write to us too. Our slider guide explains the lock types in more detail, and our article on why zippers open covers common causes of lock problems.

Materials

Body material

The same lock type can be made from different materials. The choice depends on whether the product gets washed, gets wet, and how it should look.

  • Zamak (zinc alloy)The most common body, made by die casting. It takes plating and paint well, so it offers a wide choice of colours. Check for corrosion on a sample if strong chemicals are involved.
  • BrassPressed brass bodies are known for their resistance to corrosion and wear. They are preferred on products that go through heavy processes such as stone and enzyme washing.
  • PlasticLight, corrosion-resistant, and available in colours or clear. Often used on marine, damp and outdoor products, and on home textiles.
Fit

Which slider fits which chain?

The most common mistake when choosing a slider is looking only at the number. A slider has to match both the chain type and the size.

  • For metal chainYou need a body made for the channel of metal teeth. On frequently washed products such as jeans, a brass body with a semi-auto lock is a common pairing.
  • For nylon coilA slider made for coil closes the spiral cleanly but will not seat on metal or molded teeth.
  • For molded chainMolded teeth need a wider channel, so a coil slider will not work on molded chain even at the same size.

If you have a zipper in hand, the easiest route is to send us a piece of it. The marking on a slider may not always show the size, so checking the chain itself is safer. Our article on slider fit goes further into the subject.

Pullers

Puller types

The puller is the part of the zipper people see and touch. We offer every puller type found on the market.

  • MAK-branded pullerThe puller we use on our zippers.
  • Hooked metal pullerA cast puller that hooks onto the slider. Mostly zamak, then plated or painted. This is the group with the widest choice of models.
  • Looped metal pullerA cast puller with a ring-like opening. Easy to grip, and common on leather and denim.
  • Plastic pullerLight and made in colours. Often used on sportswear, children's products and home textiles.
  • Rubber and silicone pullerEasy to grip, and can carry coloured designs. Common on outdoor and sports products. PVC pullers are sometimes sold as rubber, so it is worth asking about the material directly.
  • Leather and imitation leather pullerGives a softer finish on leather garments and bags, and can take printed or riveted details.
  • Wire, string and cord pullerA light, plain solution. On outdoor products used with gloves, a long cord puller makes life easier.

Bigger pullers are easier to grip, but can hang and knock on light fabric. Clamp-on pullers can shed fine metal particles as they move, which may mark pale fabric, so check on a sample. If you are after a puller with your own logo, mention it in your request and we will look at it together. Our puller guide covers the options in more depth.

Finishes

If the product gets washed, put a sample through the same recipe, because stone, enzyme and bleach can change the colour of a metal surface. You can try tape pairings in our catalogue.

Sizes

Sizing: what a Size 5 slider means

We give slider sizes by number too: Size 5 means the same as international No. 5 or #5. In Türkiye you will also see it written as Tip 5, T5 or 5 numara. A Size 5 chain takes a Size 5 slider, and the chain type has to match as well.

We confirm the exact millimetres on a sample. Describe the chain or slider you use now, send us a piece if you can, and we will choose the right one together.

FAQ

Sliders and pullers: common questions

Which slider and puller types do you sell?

Whatever the market sells, we sell. That covers auto-lock, semi-auto, non-lock, reversible, double-pull and special sliders in metal and plastic, along with metal, plastic, rubber, leather, wire and cord pullers.

What is the difference between a slider and a puller?

The slider is the body that runs along the chain and closes the teeth. The puller is the part attached to it that you hold and pull.

How do I find a slider that fits my zipper?

You need to know the chain type and size. If you are not sure, send us a piece of the zipper or a clear photo, and we will choose a suitable slider together with a sample.

Should I choose a locking or non-locking slider?

Products under tension that must not creep open, such as garments, take an auto-lock or semi-auto slider. Products that get moved often, such as bags and upholstery, take a non-lock one.

Is a plastic slider worse than a metal one?

No, it does a different job. Plastic is light and resists corrosion, so it works well in damp and salty conditions. A metal body stands out for its finishes and looks.

Does a Size 5 slider fit every Size 5 zipper?

No. Even at the same size, the chain type has to match, as metal, nylon and molded chains have different channels. Size 5 follows the international number scale, so it means No. 5 or #5. We confirm the exact measurements on a sample.

Do you export sliders and pullers?

Yes. We ship wholesale worldwide, led by Türkiye and the Balkans.
